Homemaker/Per Diem Cook

Position Summary:

The Homemaker provides direct and supportive services to the residents and staff in each house. They collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to maximize the quality of life for the residents. They are responsible for performing a variety of non-clinical functions as directed by the House Manager or Shift Leader, in a safe manner in accordance with the facility’s established procedures. The homemaker promotes sanitary conditions which prevent the spread of infection and odors.

Hours: 30 hours Homemaker and Per Diem Cook

Responsibilities

Supporting CNA’s & Nurses by performing non-clinical tasks:

  • Responds to residents needs in a timely manner, (i.e. answering call lights);
  • Places all belongings within patients reach, (i.e. call light, water pitcher, glasses, remote, etc);
  • Disperse and Collect food trays; Or serve meals
  • Assists with monitoring residents in common area to maintain safety, calling for assistance as needed;
  • Assists in opportunities for residents to engagement in activities of their choice and interest

Supporting the dietary functions throughout the day:

  • Stocks kitchen from main storage/kitchen before each meal or as needed at specified times of day;
  • Setting dining room tables;
  • Preparing & serving meals, being mindful of resident dietary requirements, preferences, and kosher guidelines;
  • Properly cleans, sanitizes, and re-stocks all dishes, glassware, utensils and pots;
  • Responsible for maintaining dish room and dish machine, including operation of dish machines per company and manufacturer guidelines, ensuring proper temperatures and proper measurements of detergent and sanitizer, cleaning filter, and turning machine off after meals;
  • Keeps kitchen, storage, and dining area clean and organized;
  • Cleans cooking appliances after use;
  • Maintains kitchen and dining room in a sanitary and infection-free condition through washing, cleaning and replacement of equipment and furnishings.

Supporting Housekeepers by maintaining resident rooms and common areas in an orderly fashion:

  • Responsible for disposal of trash, waste, and other disposable materials from kitchen and dining areas;
  • Bring recycling materials to main recycling container
  • Empties trash containers in resident rooms daily and as needed;
  • Checks all vacant rooms daily to keep fresh;
  • Makes resident beds and keeps resident rooms in a neat, organized condition;
  • Puts away personal laundry in resident rooms;
  • Brings clothing protectors from each meal to laundry;

General:

  • Must comply with all regulations such as OSHA, EPA, State Health Department, etc.
  • Responsible for using personal protective equipment as necessary;
  • Performs other duties as assigned;
  • Ability to respect and communicate effectively with co-workers and managers;
  • Strictly adheres to resident’s confidentiality;
  • Adheres to facility’s safety regulations and universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures when performing tasks;
  • Knowledge of facility mandatory reporting practices regarding any suspected cases of abuse, mistreatment, or neglect;
  • Maintains safe conditions by monitoring environment for spills, wet floors, needed repairs, lighting, obstacles, etc. and uses safe techniques in all work duties.

Qualifications:

  • High school education
  • Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

Physical Requirements:

This position demands good physical and mental health. The homemaker will be required to lift, carry, walk, sit, push, pull and work a flexible schedule, must be able to move continuously during work hours and able to lift greater than 25lbs.

She/he may be required to perform tasks, which involve exposure to visible blood contamination or reasonably anticipated blood contamination. The homemaker must follow the required procedures for handling, cleaning, disposing, or moving of objects/materials and/or the clean-up of blood, infectious materials, or body fluids containing blood in accordance with the OSHA Blood-borne Pathogen Standards.
