ALS, MS & Ventilator Care

The ground-breaking ALS and MS houses at the Leonard Florence Center for Living are the result of the collaborative vision between architect and resident Steve Saling and Chelsea Jewish Lifecare CEO Barry Berman.

The Leonard Florence Center provides care for more ALS patients than any other facility in the world. As the first urban model Green House® skilled nursing facility in the nation, the Center, which has garnered international recognition for its achievements, welcomes professionals from all over the world who hope to replicate this unique model of care.

Revolutionary eye gaze technology enables residents to move independently throughout the building. Individuals with restricted physical abilities, including those on ventilators, are able to call for elevators, regulate their room temperature, turn on the TV, open and close the room-darkening curtains. Occasional activities include skydiving, sailing, and fishing outings as well as attendance at Broadway performances, movies, and athletic events such as the Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox games which reinforce the Center’s commitment to living life to the fullest.

Our yearly ALS & MS Walk for Living brings together residents, families, staff, and community members to honor our remarkable residents. Philanthropy helps sustain our residents. Individuals fighting these terrible diseases come to this award-winning facility from all across the nation and beyond, wanting to live as independently as possible.
