Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
- Assists the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern a long term care facility.
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of Nursing staff; and assists the DON in developing the Department’s budget.
- Participates in the selection of residents for admission in conjunction with the admission team.
- Assists the Staff Education Director in the planning, implementing and maintaining effective staff education programs.
- Assists the Safety Officer in developing safety standards for the Nursing Department.
- Oversees the development of preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident.
- In the absence of the DON, will assume the DON’s work and decision making capacity.
- Performs all job requirements in a manner that exemplifies the Mission Statement of Jewish Geriatric Services.
- Facilitates training sessions (Greenhouse culture/job expectations) as required and necessary. Assures that trained employees understand the cultural and job duty Greenhouse responsibilities/expectations.
- Plan, organize, develop and direct in-service educational programs and support new hire orientations throughout the facility in accordance with applicable federal, state, local and Joint Commission standards, guidelines and regulations.
- Adheres to Nurse Practice Act.
- Understanding of HIPAA, Corporate Compliance, Risk Management and Patient Safety.
- Other projects as identified and assigned by the Administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of a NLN approved school for professional nursing.
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts.
- Three to five years nursing experience, including at least six months administrative responsibility and two years’ experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility.
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to post-acute care.
- Demonstrated skill in physical assessment.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by policies of the facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
- Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
- Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc. that are necessary for providing quality care.
- Ability to work independently.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to move throughout workday and perform physical activities, including sitting, standing, bending, twisting, stooping, and lifting/moving/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
- Ability to see, hear, feel, read, write, and verbalize clearly in English.
